One Room Schoolhouse

What was it like to attend the first schools ever built in Waukesha County? Learn what it was like to be a student in a one room schoolhouse. Students didn’t just learn reading and arithmetic. Find out what else they were taught, and what a day at school was like.

Objectives

Students will use primary resources (photographs) to tell difference across time.

Identify what factors – age, gender, ethnicity – affected a teacher’s responsibilities in early schoolhouses.
