Archives & Library

What is an Archive?

Archives or archival material are unique, one-of-a-kind records of the past. Waukesha County Historical Society & Museum archives include historical documents, letters, notes, diaries, photos, ledgers, board minutes, or other non-current records preserved for their continued value that tell a story about an organization, individual, or family. Archives or archival repository is the place where these records are stored and made accessible in a climate controlled environment.

What is a library?

A library collection consists of books or other works that were written to be mass produced and sold. The Waukesha County Historical Society & Museum has a selective special library that contains published works on Waukesha County, its communities, its people, and its events.

Staff is continually working towards making this material more accessible. While we don’t currently have an online catalog, Research Center staff has access to the collection through internal databases and card indices which we search for your convenience.
