General Information
Open Houses
Large-scale events with activity stations set up throughout the museum. Leaders and parents guide their Scouts through the activities at their own pace. Registration is required and can be done by mail or phone. Only pre-registered Scouts are guaranteed supplies. Include payment with registration or pay at check-in on the day of the Open House. See listings below for more information.
Clinics
Small-group programs where Museum staff guide Scouts and leaders through activities and provide in-depth coverage of related topics and exhibits. Scouts arrive at the Clinic’s start time and stay until it ends. They also bring bag lunches to have while at the Museum. Registration is accepted by mail only, and full payment must be included. See listings below for more information.
Tours
Meet scouting requirements and electives by exploring Waukesha County’s past. The Education Dept will work with your group to provide a program that meets requirements and complements your group’s focus. Tours last one hour; tours with a craft last an hour and a half. Discovery Boxes
Take the Museum to your next scout meeting! Discovery Boxes are “mini museums” that use original and reproduction objects to illustrate themes such as immigration, farm life, and wool processing. Each contains a guide for helping scouts “read” the artifacts included. Visit our Discovery Boxes page for more information.
Daisy Girl Scouts
Sense of Community Tour (1 hour)
Available Tuesday–Saturday, 10:00-4:30
Promote a sense of community (Goal #4) by exploring Waukesha County’s past. Girls will learn how local communities used everyone’s skills to make life better and create a “Community Album” craft project.Tours last 1 hour.
$4 per Daisy. Leaders/parents free.

Brownie Girl Scouts
Listening to the Past Tour (1 hour)
Available Tuesday–Saturday, 10:00-4:30
Complete Listening to the Past activities #2, 4, and 5 by visiting the Native American and Early Settlement, Civil War, and Technology exhibits as well as the current special exhibit, when available.
$3 per Brownie. Leaders/parents free.
Add on a craft for $1 per Brownie. Craft takes an additional half hour. Choose from:
- embroidery bookmark or patchwork square (“Stitch It Together” activities #4 and #6)
- games and toys of the early settlers to Victorian era (Puppets, Dolls, & Plays activity #2, Listening to the Past activity #6)
- Native American games (Listening to the Past activity #6)

Stitch It Together Clinic
Saturday, March 13, 10:00-2:00
Practice your sewing skills, see historic quilts, and complete the Stitch It Together Try-It. Projects include an animal sewing card, a button collage, a bean bag doll, and a patchwork quilt square. Each Clinic participant will need to bring a bag lunch that does not need refrigeration.
$6 per Scout. One adult per 8 Scouts free; additional adults $3.
Fee covers admission, activities, and Try-It.

Animals Open House
Saturday, April 24, 1:00-4:00
Explore the world of pets and wild animals by completing the Animals Try-It. Activities will include learning how to care for a pet, moving like an animal, discovering why animals are shaped the way they are, playing animal sounds charades, and exploring the special “Nature of Dogs” exhibit.
$3 per Scout. Leaders / parents free.
Fee covers admission, activities, but not Try-It.

Junior Girl Scouts
Local Lore Tour (1 hour)
Available Tuesday–Saturday, 10:00-4:30
Complete Local Lore activities #1, 2, 4, and 7 by visiting the Native American and Early Settlement, Springs Era, and Architecture exhibits as well as the current special exhibit, when available. Tours last one hour.
$3 per Junior. Leaders/parents free.
Add on a craft for $1 per Junior. Craft takes an additional half hour. Choose from:
- loom weaving (Yarn and Fabric Arts activity #2)
- embroidery bookmark or patchwork square (Yarn and Fabric Arts activities #8 and #9)
- games and toys of the early settlers to Victorian era (My Heritage activity #5, Toymaker activity #3)
- Native American games (My Heritage activity #5, Toymaker activity #3)
- personal / family journal or scrapbook (My Heritage activity #1)

Pet Care Open House
Saturday, April 17, 1:00-4:00
Discover the fun and responsibilities of taking care of a pet by completing the Pet Care Badge. Activities will include finding out how animals communicate, creating a pet scrapbook, learning about groups and places that care for animals, and exploring the special “Nature of Dogs” exhibit.
$3 per Scout. Leaders / parents free.
Fee covers admission, activities, but not Badge.

Cub Scouts
Your History Tour (1 hour)
Available Tuesday–Saturday, 10:00-4:30
Complete Tiger Cub Achievement 1G, Wolf Cub Achievement 4f, and Bear Cub Achievements 3d and 8e by visiting the Native American and Early Settlement, Civil War, and Technology exhibits as well as the current special exhibit, when available. Tours last one hour.
$3 per Cub Scout. Leaders/parents free.
Add on a craft for $1 per Cub Scout. Craft takes an additional half hour. Choose from:
- family scrapbook (Tiger Cub Achievement 1D)
- family mobile (Tiger Cub Elective 4)
- games and toys of the early settlers to Victorian era (Wolf Cub Achievement 10b, Elective 4)
- Civil War signal flags (Wolf Cub Elective 1a)
- windlass (Wolf Cub Elective 8d)

Animals Around Us Open House
Saturday, March 20, 1:00-4:00
Explore how animals have helped people in Waukesha County and how to care for animals around us today. Activities will meet or work toward the achievements and electives listed below, but all Cub Scouts are welcome to participate in all activities:
- Tiger Cubs: Achievement 1G: Go to a historical society or museum; Elective 31: Learn About Animals; Elective 43: Pet Care
- Wolf Cubs: Achievement 4f: Visit an important place in your community, such as a historic location; Elective 14: Pets
- Bear Cubs: Achievement 3d: Visit a place of historical interest; Achievement 5: Sharing Your World with Wildlife; Elective 12: Nature Crafts; Elective 16: Farm Animals
- Webelos: Outdoor Activity Badge
$3 per Scout. Leaders / parents free.
